Sangiovese is a grape variety native to the Tuscany region of Italy. It produces a variety of well-known fine wines, including Brunello, Chianti, and Vino Nobile de Montepulciano, and forms the backbone to red wine blends known as SuperTuscans. Due to its popularity, Sangiovese is now planted all over Italy. There are also some Sangiovese planted in California, producing some interesting "Cal-Ital" wines.
