La Quercia 2008 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Antonio Lamona – the owner of this winery – is the first in his family to bottle his own wine and, beginning in the late sixties, he began cultivating vines that are entirely organic. This Montepulciano is a great example of what happens when you match low-yield winemaking expertise with a prolific growing zone, and constantly cut, cut, cut back the vines. This is super juicy, with loads of expressive aromas. I always find that wines produced from organically grown grapes contain a certain amount of sophistication. This is no exception.

Ridge 2006 Santa Cruz Mountains Estate Red Wine
From the same vineyards that produce the iconic Montebello, this Estate red blend provides many of the same qualities as Ridge's top wine, but in a more supple package meant for drinking now. The blend is 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. Classic scents of cassis, cigar box and lead pencil would fool many people into thinking this is a fine Bordeaux. The wine is rich but not overly fruity or thick, more classically structured with moderate alcohol (13.7%) and silky tannins. It's remarkable how the wine opens and develops more complexity as it airs, giving the drinker something new to experience with every sip. At the price, this is a bargain introduction to the qualities that make the Montebello so special.

Scherrer 2006 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
We've been big fans of Fred Scherrer's wines for a long time now, and his Russian River Pinot Noir is consistently one of our favorite (and best selling) premium pinots in the store. Both the 2004 and 2005 vintages of this wine blew our customers away when served at Saturday pinot noir tastings, and this 2006 continues Fred's string of outstanding pinots. The Scherrer Pinot is always beautifully balanced, fragrant and smooth, with great depth of fruit. Although the wine has great potential to improve in the cellar, it is wonderfully drinkable right now. Don't wait and miss out on this great pinot noir!

Philippe Verzier Cave de Chante Perdrix 2006 St. Joseph
What an amazingly sexy nose full of roasted meat, charred herbs, crushed berries and a touch of aromatic flowers. On the palate the wine is explosive without being clumsy or intrusive, pure fruit with that meaty flavor that makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Mason 2008 Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc
Veteran Napa winemaker Randy Mason has specialized in Sauvignon Blanc his whole career. Pomelo is Mason's everyday dry white wine, and legions of our customers find this affordable, crisp, grapefruity bargain a joy to drink.

O'Shea Scarborough 2007 Proprietors Chardonnay
Horse Heaven Hills is a newly recognized region just to the west of the more famous Walla Walla Valley, and it contains some of Washington's finest vineyards. This outstanding chardonnay is crisp, yet rich, with flavors of lemon curd, toast, and a hint of pineapple, apple and pure fruit unmarked by oak (only neutral oak was used). Partial malolactic fermentation gives just a bit of creaminess, but the overall impression is one of great purity and clarity, a perfect balance of richness and precision, with intriguing notes of minerality adding complexity. This is a very exciting and food-friendly style of chardonnay. Only 44 cases were made, so act quickly.
