The 2007 Selvapiana—a refreshingly traditional example of Chianti—is drinkable, and classically styled; almost a purebred in a way. The wine, made in big barrels, has a dusty aroma of dried cherries, with a spicy flavor that hints at strawberry jam once the wine is aerated a bit. The price has dropped from the 2006 vintage, but not what is in the bottle. This now qualifies as a great value for what ends up in the glass.
