This is a blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre, it has lovely aromatics of dark berries, spice and tobacco. The slightly higher percentages of Syrah and Mourvedre contribute to the earthy character, structure and solid finish.

2004 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition
Cuvée du Vatican
Very pretty aromas of crushed berries, smoked meat and roses. Very elegant on the palate with great concentration of deep, earthy, dark berries and fine tannins on the finish. I recently featured the Vatican Tradition at an evening tasting and it was remarkable how it changed and evolved in the glass. It went from sturdy to astounding in the ten or so minutes we swirled and sniffed and tasted it and ended up being one of the stars of the tasting. Beautiful now and only showing a fraction of its potential.
