Chateau Rollat is one of the "new wave" of Washington State producers that brings an old world sensibility to the wines of this newly emerging wine region in eastern Washington. French winemaking practices work magic on the excellent cabernet fruit coming from the Walla Walla Valley, and the result is wine with amazing depth and polish. 15% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc is blended in to create a very complex, rich wine that is classically balanced but also very approachable now. Very smooth and rich with great depth of fruit, this was a favorite at our "Not-from-Napa Cabs" tasting recently. Based on this excellent first release, this is a winery to watch.
