Thanks to the recession, a prominent restaurant up in L.A. had to liquidate a portion of their wine cellar to pay off their creditors, including the 5 precious cases of the OS “Desolation” Chardonnay still sitting in their cellar. They had been successfully selling this wine for $13 per glass! As quickly as you can say “O’Shea Scarborough”, we made a deal with the distributor (who had taken back the wine) to grab all 5 cases at a reduced price. We couldn’t be happier, and we’re spreading the good news by passing along the savings to our loyal customers of The Wine Country. Happy days are here again! So what does this wine have that makes it so special? Balance, precision, depth, and complexity. The source of the fruit is Washington's "Champoux" vineyard, one of the state's most famous sites, and this beautiful chardonnay shows the breed that the site imparts on wines made from its grapes. No malolactic fermentation or new oak masks the brilliance of this wine. Exceptionally crisp and vibrant, with a crystalline purity and delineation that is simply breathtaking, the wine tastes of a whole melange of citrus fruits (lemon, lime, tangerine) surrounded by floral notes. There is minerality, too, and depth, with a finish that goes on and on. Terrific now, but almost certain to improve with a year or two of cellaring. My wife loves this wine so much, I may need to buy a case for myself, so there isn’t much to go around! Not to be missed, but act fast, because when this batch is gone, it’s truly GONE!
