This select barrel XO is 80% Pinot Noir grapes. No French producer distills grapes of this quality. Using such high - quality wines gives the XO a distinctively soft richness of flavor and a wonderfully long and complex finish. It has a subtle and distinctive Californian fragrance and flavor of deep, rich fruit. There is structure and definition from high grape acidity, which is protected by Mendocino's cool morning fogs and a delicate oakiness from aging in the finest Limousin oak cognac barrels. Germain - Robin uses hand distillation on an antique cognac still. Germain Robin Alambic Brandy Select Barrel XO Germain-Robin of Mendocino County has been producing Cognac-styled brandies (Alambic) for some time now, and the smoothness, richness and fruitiness of these spirits has impressed us more and more each year as the blends get more mature. This is a luxury blend, considering the relative youth of the distillery. With a minimum of 10 years, each part of this blend of mostly Pinot Noir (unheard of in Cognac) still takes on a very authentic flavor, albeit more full-flavored than delicate Cognacs like the Hine. This is very good brandy, rich in flavor and long on finish. It may just be America�s best.
