Roussanne, a white grape of the Rhone, is mainly a blending grape called upon to add zip to the white wines of the region. In sunny California, however, Roussanne is nearly as generous as Viognier, and its acidity serves it well. Like Viognier, the aromas are ravishing, as Zaca Mesa's fine example reveals. Vanilla, tangerine, jasmine. In the mouth, a handsome weight with the usual tropical fruit bowl of flavors, avoiding the brash conceits of current trends. You not only will enjoy drinking this wine, you'll enjoy savoring its crisp, tangy finish.
