One of the loveliest, most harmonic sweet wines that few people seem to know about, the Blandy's five-year Sercial (a variety said to be related to Riesling) is the driest of the styles of Madeira, making it much more food friendly. Acidic fruit aromas like pineapple and pit fruit aromas like apricot are accented by nutty and fig scents. There seems to be a slight saltiness like one finds in a fine amontillado sherry. The finish is long, bursting and slightly dry. This surprising wine is stunning in so many ways, and for less than $20, it makes this unique addition to your wine cellar even more exciting.
