In the excellent new Symington creation from Blandy's, Alvada, Bual and Malmsey have been blended together, combining each varietal's best characteristics. Amazingly, it is richer than any 5 year old Madeira in recent memory. The Alvada is very sweet and unctuous, with citrusy notes from the Bual portion, particulary flavors of orange. Aromas of Christmas spices burst from the glass, and the flavor is complex, with forward plum pudding and brown sugar notes. Mmmm. Serving suggestions: Almond cake, hazelnut tarts, pecan pie and milk chocolate desserts, Aged Gouda (2 years or more), and Manchego Cheeses.
