The previous vintage was nominated for red-wine of the year. This 2001 is just as good but it's also a different wine. The '98 had loads of leather, tobacco, and spice, with hints of fruit, where this current vintage has more fruit on the nose and palate to go with the nuances of typical wood aromas and flavors. There is no doubt that this is a very classy wine.This is from an outstanding vintage, even better than the more recent 2004 vintage, in Rioja and this wine shows why. Complex, elegant and boasting a ripe nose and palate of red fruit, some tobacco, along with some supple tannins. I could throw out adjectives all day for this wine, but I’ll sound redundant. Simply put, drink this now, often, and as much of it as you can.
