This wine is everything Garnacha – oops, I mean Cannonau – should be. Yes, the two grapes are, essentially, the same. The Spanish brought the grape to Sardinia sometime in the 14th century and with 600+ years in Sardinia the grape has turned into something unique to Italy and only closely resembles Garnacha from Spain. Gabbas’ version is delightful, has some spice, loads of earthiness, and round, elegant berry fruit. It’s a wine that will pair well with a lamb stew or, really, any hearty meat dish.
