Although rarely grown any more in its native Bordeaux, the Carmenere grape has been embraced by Chile's winemakers as its own, and they are rapidly elevating the varietal to new levels of quality. Lesser Carmeneres can be too green and vegetal, but this one from Arenal is very ripe, rich and full bodied, with just the right herbal notes to add complexity and interest. Delicious and rich, full of fruit and very classy.
