Bonarda (known as Charbono in the U.S.) is the "other" red wine from Argentina, very popular in its home country, but less well-known here. It's a bigger, richer and softer wine than Malbec, with juicy blackberry fruits accented with spice and ultra-smooth tannins that impart an almost creamy texture in the mouth. Yet the wine is well balanced and with enough acidity to work beautifully with a wide variety of foods. And for everyday sipping, we like Bonarda every bit as much as Malbec. This would be a terrific "house red" for any red wine lover, just as it is in Argentina.
