For those looking for more bang for your Cabernet buck, the Red Hills region of California’s Lake County is a hotbed of serious Cabernet Sauvignon. Stag’s Leap’s Hawk Crest label makes a serious wine from there, as does vineyard veteran Andy Beckstoffer. It is a bright tasting Cabernet—100% varietal—with lots of great flavor and a fresh taste for such ripe fruit. We’ve carried previous vintages of this wine before, and made lots of Cab drinkers very, very happy with their selection.

2004-75 Wine Company Cabernet Sauvignon
Amber Knolls Vineyard
Red Hills, Lake County
The Red Hills appellation of Lake County is Californias hottest new Cabernet territory with exciting wines from Stags Leaps Hawk Crest and now the 75 Wine Company. This is a good Cabby-Cab, grown in volcanic clay and obsidian soil at a high 1,800 to 2,600 elevation by the Beckstoffer family. This fine red has a minerally, earthy taste of crushed blackberries and other black fruits along with just a dollop of oak and a little heat on the tongue. A very good wine and an excellent value.
