The Hermannshöhle vineyard is the crown jewel for the Dönnhoff estate, and produces the estate’s esteemed Grand Cru wines, the Grosses Gewächs Dry Riesling that has so much power and complexity and concentration, it almost defies description. Helmut Dönnhoff does not make shy wines from here! The Spätlese is amply fruited, creamy sweet, with super ripe yellow peaches and red apples, and a hint of red strawberry in the mix. Look a little deeper and you get exotic spice as well. This is an expressive, complex wine I would save for a special occasion now, or for cellaring the next 10, 20, or 30 years.
