Every time I write about a Carmignano I always like to mention that they’ve been growing Cabernet Sauvignon in the area – which is due west of Florence–for as long or longer than most Super Tuscan producers have. Not many people know that so it makes wines from Carmignano unknown. With time in barrel there are notes of leather, earth, smoke mixed in with the lovely ripe fruit that powers its way onto your palate.
