Arboleda is a relatively new project from the folks at Errazuriz, the oldest and consistently highest rated winery in Chile. They pioneered the newly certified Aconcagua Costa region in the 1990s, which is a rare-for-Chile cool climate area and the wines coming out of this region are a revelation. Carmenère is Chile's trademark red grape and this is as perfectly balanced an example as I have ever encountered. The aromas and flavors on this meticulously hand-made wine are intense and complex. There are dark fruit, spice and herbs everywhere. The wine is very supple and finely textured, with a mouth filling smoothness and elegance that is remarkable at this price point. If you've wondered what Carmenère is all about, this is the wine to try. This is a perfect pairing for red meat.
