Bodegas Artadi 2019 Vinas De Gain Tempranillo, Rioja Spain

Artadi is a younger winery in Rioja, but one of the most respected, that made news in 2015 when they decided to leave the Rioja DO as they felt constricted by the appellations strict rules.  They take a more Burgundian, single vineyard approach to differentiate their wines, rather than age classifications, which wasn’t allowed by the DO.   Their ‘Viñas de Gain’ is 100% Tempranillo and what they consider a Village level wine with the grapes coming from several vineyard sites in the Alavesa subregion.  This is unlike most Rioja wines you will have with vibrant red and black fruits really singing.  A short stint in French oak adds some toasty and spicy notes but it's the freshness and purity of fruit that makes it so enjoyable.
