The grapes from this wine were handpicked, crushed, and then left in contact with the skins for 12 hours before pressing. The juice was then put into stainless steel tanks and was ages on its less for 3 months before bottling. This created a classic aroma and flavors of green fig, gooseberry, and lime. Herbal Nuances are supported by elegant with hints of mineral and a slight chalky minerality to the long finish. Pair with seafood, shellfish, sashimi, goat cheeses.

The De Wet family have been farming the Excelsior Estate in the Robertson wine valley of South Africa since 1859. Koos de Wet first settled there at that time, but the family’s winemaking history goes back even further. Koos was a direct descendant of Jacobus de Wet, who was an official in the Dutch East India Company. He landed in Cape Town in 1697, and became one of the first winemakers not only in Cape Town, but in the entire Southern Hemisphere when he planted vines in the late 17th century.

Now the Excelsior estate has over 220 hectares of vines planted. Fifth generation winemaker Peter de Wet is head of operations now. Vineyards are all grown on limestone heavy soils.
