A staple at The Wine Country for over two decades, the current vintage may be their best ever.
2016 Macon-Charnay, Manciat Poncet
This friendly little Chardonnay has graced our Burgundy department for two decades and I think this 2016 is one of the best vintages we’ve had the pleasure to share and drink ourselves. Just pure, clean and focused fruit, nice weight in the mouth and not a touch of oak to clutter up the lovely fruit. This is the wine your baked chicken is begging for.
The Manciat-Poncet domain is split into (2) parts. The Claude Manciat portion is located in Charnay, just outside of Macon. The Pouilly-Fuissé vineyards are in the village of Vergisson and belonged to his wife's family, the Poncets. Together, their estates comprise about 12 hectares. All wines are estate bottled.
The Macon-Charnay has been a consistent favorite vintage after vintage. It is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve the zesty fruit and minerality. All the grapes have been hand harvested.
Pure fruit and zesty minerals! Aromas and flavors of ripe pears, citrus and golden apples with no oak to overpower the delicate fruit! A very long finish. Pair with baked chicken, light salads, white fish, simply prepared shrimp, strong cheeses or simply sip this lovely little white wine all on its own. A delight every year, but especially lovely this vintage.
