Get Into White Burgundy and Your Life Will Never Be the Same

The Divine Source of All Chardonnay

2015 De La Meuliere Chablis 1er Cru Les Fourneaux

Finding a straight village level Chablis at this price is pretty amazing but to find a Premier Cru, from a smoking hot vintage at this price?!  Almost unheard of. This family owned domaine is now in its 7th generation winemaking, using both history and more modern techniques to produce vibrant and thrilling wines. This Les Fourneaux offers generous and upfront fruit, slight peach and fresh cut green apple but there is plenty of limestone, brine and minerals, classic Chablis flavors, as well. Fairly round in the mouth with a long doughy finish.  Ready to drink now but could hold up a couple years as well.

$30.99 per bottle

2003 Etienne Defaix Chablis 1er Cru

Daniel-Etienne Defaix is the fifth generation of this family of vine growers.  The Les Lys Premier Cru belonged to the monarchy at one time, the Lys (lyli) flower being the symbol of the monarchy. This wine is 100% Chardonnay.  A very fine wine, indeed! Rich and aromatic , there is apple, pear with stone fruit, walnuts, with a touch of honey and slight sherry-like aromas and flavors and crushed stones. A more advanced wine this shows what a great winemaker, even in a troublesome vintage can do. Rich and textured but still showing plenty of nerve.

$45.99 per bottle

2017 Herve Azo Petit Chablis

I almost feel silly writing this wine up as it already has a massive following but, well, I figured for those of you that have yet to discover this little gem, it was my duty to let you in on it. Azo has been a label here at The Wine Country for over two decades now. The wines have always offered a tremendous amount of truly expressive terroir and regionality and often at half what the larger houses charge. Petit Chablis is always just a little lighter, less briny but you still get the expression of the region, for less money and with less assertiveness. Here you get racy citrus, cold white stones, some green herbal notes and tons of ripe green apple. Light on the palate with a playful little tang on the finish. Bring on the seafood!

$17.99 per bottle

2016 Robert-Denogent Macon-Fuissé

Located in Burgundy’s southern Maconnais the vineyard for this Macon-Fuisse was planted in 1996 and is rich with deep clay soils which help provide more sensual fruit. Layered and opulent on the nose you get roasted citrus, baked apples and hints of brown butter. On the palate there is plenty of nerve to bolster the ripe fruit, nice meaty body but with muscle to keep it perfectly balanced. Baked chicken, white fish and strong cheeses beg for such a wine. After one glass you will too.

$41.99 per bottle

2016 Remi Jobard Bourgogne Blanc

This is one of those wines I wish I could make into a perfume. I wish I could smell as good as this Chardonnay does. Exploding with night blooming white flowers, pulse filled stems and all, along with spice baked pears and a scrape of citrus rind. This is a crave inducing, mouth filling white wine, too bad there is so little of it to get. Grab some while you can!
