Grower Bubbles from California, Too!

So, as we have discussed over and over here at The Wine Country, we look for, support and adore sharing with our customers smaller production wines.  We’ve always found that the quality outshines the more volume-driven wineries and often for less money. Our grower champagne department has gotten to be known all over the globe for this reason, and while that is truly wonderful, I’ve always felt like we struggle with domestic sparklers.

Sure, the bigger brands sell, but I’ve always wanted to focus on the little growers from right here in our own backyard.  Well, late in October we were visited by the winery representative from Iron Horse Vineyards and I found just what I was looking for!

Founded in 1976, Iron Horse is a small independent winery located in Sonoma County’s sub-appellation of Green Valley in the southern Russian River Valley.  The small estate has always focused on creating elegant wines that embody classic California fruit and expression of their sense of place.

Three generations of family still reside on the estate and they hold the very prestigious honor of being served at many White House events beginning with the historic Reagan-Gorbachev Summit Meetings ending the Cold War.  So clearly we are talking about some special wines here.

We are incredibly happy to Welcome Iron Horse Vineyards to our domestic sparkling wine department!

2014 Iron Horse Ocean Reserve Blanc de Blancs

Green Valley Sparkling Wine

This is a really wonderful project from Iron Horse and National Geographic, the winery contributes $4 for each bottle sold to establish Marine Protected Areas and reduce over fishing around the globe. Racy red apples, some graham cracker crumb, orange blossom and sweet cream. Delightfully fresh and clean on the finish. Great with chips, cheese plates and cured meat. (Only 1,000 cases made)

$39.99 per bottle

2013 Iron Horse Classic Brut

Green Valley Sparkling Wine

Produced from 100% hand harvested Pinot Noir, (68%) and Chardonnay, (32%) all from estate fruit. Here you get tons of red fruit and roasted blood orange but with a wicked cool green note running through. Wonderfully creamy on the palate but with a perfect lift of vibrancy. (Only 2,300 cases made)

$34.99 per bottle

2013 Iron Horse Russian Cuvee

Green Valley Sparkling Wine

The Russian Cuvée commemorates the style of sparkling Iron Horse created for the historic Reagan - Gorbachev Summit which ended the Cold War. This is a wine of lovely richness and full texture. Powerful red fruits with pie dough and apple filling. Tremendously forward and generous with fine bubbles and lift. Great balance here and great for just simple sipping. High on the yum scale for sure. (Only 1,400 cases made)

$34.99 per bottle
