Long Beach Public Library Foundation Reveals Wines Selected for June 10's Grape Expectation Gala

Wines and dishes have been selected for the annual Grapes Expectation June 10th fundraiser benefiting the Long Beach Public Library Foundation. But you don't have to wait until then to enjoy the wines!

One of the most anticipated wine and food events of the year is the annual Grape Expectations fund-raiser  for the Long Beach Public Library Foundation.  Once again the gala event will be held at the Latin American Museum of Art at 628 Alamitos Ave, Long Beach, CA on Sunday June 10 at 5 p.m.

There will be a wine tasting reception, with appetizers from various Long Beach restaurants, with a silent auction of donated wines and gifts.

The reception will be followed by a magnificent multi-course dinner catered by T.G.I.S. Catering, one of the elite caterers in southern California.

Once again The Wine Country has been selected to partner up with the event, providing wine suggestions to the event committee, conducting wine and food pairings and providing commentary at the event itself.  The Wine Country has been involved with this organization in one way or another since its inception over 15 years ago.

Tickets to the event are $250 per person, and can be purchased at the Library Foundation.  For more information, go online at www.lbplfoundation.org/grapes

Here is a sneak peak of the menu and the wines selected.  Of course, you don't have to wait until then to try out the wines!

FIRST COURSE

Compressed Watermelon Salad

Grilled haloumi, Greek Goddess Tzatziki, Wild Rocket, Pomegranate Molasses, Roasted Pistachio

NV Balivet Bugey-Cerdon, Methode Ancestrale, France

The wine appellation Bugey-Cerdon is located near the Savoie region towards the foothills of the French Alps.  Balivet's version is a blend of Gamay, Pinot Noir and some local varieties.  It has a very light garnet color, with a delightful fruity demi-sec character and a charming sparkle all the way through.

SECOND COURSE

Spaghetti

Beet, Goat Cheese, Chives, Poppy Seeds

2017 Hans Wirsching Rosé, Franken, Germany

From the historic Franconia region of Germany, this great producer of dry white wines has given us a charming rosé made from Pinot Noir and a regional wine called Portugieser, probably brought to Germany from the Danube.  Look for a lovely note of fresh mountain strawberries in the aroma, and the flavors in this fruity, yet dry and vivacious rosé.

$16.99 per bottle

THIRD COURSE

Salmon Topped with a Jalapeño & Parsley Pistou

White Wine Braised Haricot Verts, Cippolinni Confit

2016 Torii Mor Pinot Gris, Willamette Valley, Oregon

Pinot Gris, or Gray Pinot, is a white sibling to Pinot Noir.  Native to Alsace, France, it has also found a home in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, where its purity of flavor and firm structure are ideal for Northwest salmon.  Torii Mor's version has all the attributes of great Pinot Gris, floral aromatics, silky texture, luxurious mouthfeel, and delicious pear-like flavors.

$19.99 per bottle

Rosemary and Garlic Double Cut Lambchop

Roasted Cauliflower Gratin

2014 Sierra Cantabria Rioja Crianza, Spain

The Rioja region produces Spain's great red wines, capable of aging decades and exhibiting complexity only found in the world's elite wines.  Sierra Cantabria's Crianza Rioja combines a traditional soul with modern, clean fruit flavors and aromas that offer cedar notes along with hints of blackberries and spice.
