In 2013 Amelie Berthaut took over winemaking for the family estate making her the seventh generation to do so. Amelie is a delightfully charismatic young woman that has already put her personal stamp, or personality, on the wines coming out of the domaine, the wines as charming and lovely as she.
Like most great winemakers Amelie believes that the most important work to be done to make great wine, especially Burgundy, happens in the vineyard. She farms as organic as she can using no herbicides or pesticides and uses as little sulfur as possible, ensuring that the wines retain their vibrancy but are stable enough for the long haul.
This is our third vintage of Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet and the wines get better, more polished and fleshed out with each release. With prices of Burgundy going up each vintage we are grateful that regions like Fixin haven’t exploded with commercial success, we can still afford to drink great Burgundy without dipping into the kid’s college fund. We just got in a couple cases of her brilliant 2017s but only two cases of each so grab them before they are sold out!
