Ontañon is a 5th generation family of growers in Rioja but always sold their fruit until the 1970’s when Cuevas Perez inherited the vineyards and started bottling their own wine. Their vineyards are located in the warmer Rioja Baja region but at high elevation so the wines retain their freshness and floral aromatics. They only release their Gran Reserva wine in years with the very best conditions for producing their top of the line wine. The bright red berry fruit still shines in this wine despite its 10+ years of age. It’s a smooth, well balanced wine and the complex layers of spice, vanilla and toasted oak add to its elegance and grace. Ready to drink now or can be cellared for many years.
