Carmelo Patti is a revered 40 year veteran of the Mendoza wine scene and is famous for annually making 3000 cases of truly hand-made wines in the most traditional manner, using wild yeast and ageing in used French oak. He literally does everything in the winemaking process, down to the labeling. This exceptional wine is all about graceful elegance and raw power - true, pure, lithe, and intense. Penetrating high-toned aromas of dark fruits, earth and minerals, lead to a flavorful mouth full of nicely tannic, savory dark berry fruit with hints of tea and herbs. The weight in the mouth is just right and there is excellent refreshing acidity, with those very supple, firming tannins provide an excellent backbone. This is the current vintage, as he holds the wines back until he thinks they are ready, and although this will certainly improve over the next five years or so, it is delicious now. One of the better Cabernet Sauvignons I've had in quite a while. No wonder he's a legend.
