This wine is 100% Chardonnay grown on limestone soils in the appellation of Monthelie situated between Volnay and Meursault in the Burgundy wine region of France. Crisp and lively with aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, pears, golden apples, and orange zest. Very precise, medium bodied and simply delicious. Pair with fish, shellfish, chicken and pork dishes.

Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet was just existing until the arrival of Etienne de Montille in time to oversee the 2001 vintage. Under Etienne, upgrading and modernizing vineyard practices have been implemented, including reducing yields, discarding unproductive vineyards, and converting to organic and biodynamic farming practices.

Changes have also been made in the cellar to ensure that the quality of the fruit is emphasized - meaning more restrained use of oak. Oak is kept to a minimum now, with premiers crus receiving only 10-20% new oak, and up to 25% new oak for the grands crus. The cellar now operates similarly to that of Domaine de Montille.

Samantha's notes from August 2019

The Chateau De Puligny-Montrachet winery is actually located in the village of Puligny-Montrachet but Monthelie is situated between Volnay and Meursault and offer quite a lot of value if you look at their famous neighbors. Chateau De Puligny-Montrachet has been organic and biodynamic since 2005, always looking to capture the flavor and expression of the vineyard/village and this powerfully expressive 1er Cru is showing both dimension and stunning grace. Beautifully layered with herbs, white flowers, tangerine and pears with a kiss of spice that almost reminds us of cinnamon. Great bones and structure here with a finish that just keeps giving and giving. Roast a chicken or big fleshy white fish, keep it simple and let this beauty be all the sauce you need.
