Quarts de Chaume is a tiny Loire Valley subregion near Anjou that just happens to have ideal conditions for botrytised late harvest Chenin Blanc, one of the world's great, if little known, sweet wines. Pierre-Bise's 2014 is a splendid example. Deep straw color, like a light Sauternes. The wine is very sweet, with a touch of honey, ripe peach and carmelized pear balanced by perfect acidity. Is there a hint of coconut in this rich, delectable beauty?
