Now when I think of Bordeaux this is exactly the kind of wine I think about.Recognized as one of Bordeaux's most sought-after Classified Growths, Chateau Lynch-Bages offers the pleasure of powerful, opulent wines that have become more precise after each vintage. Elegant and structured, the wines are generous in their youth while becoming more aromatically complex as they age.Now don't go thinking this is some gloppy goo ball of fruit, nothing could be further from the truth. This is a wine loaded with structure. You can clearly hold on to this gorgeous red for a few years before enjoying but if you can't wait give it a serious decant before diving palate first into this mouthful of Bordeaux.
The Trocard family currently owns this domaine, and it's wine-making heritage goes back to 1620. Over the centuries, the estate has significantly expanded. Today, it is overseen by Jean-Louis Trocard and his children, who follow their ancestral traditions and accumulated expertise. Located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation, on the Right Bank of the Gironde Estuary of Bordeaux, vines are grown in clay and gravelly soil ( (part of Pomerol's 'golden arc'). Clos de la Vieille Eglise is aged for over 18 months in new French oak barrels, providing dense texture and voluptuous tannins. The wine is a Merlot dominated blend (70%) with a high proportion of Cabernet Franc (30%).
Clos de la Vieille Eglise has intense aromas of dark fruits and spices. There is remarkable power and length on the palate, and at the same time a wonderful freshness thanks to its high proportion of Cabernet Franc in the blend. This wine will age beautifully. Pair with duck, game, veal, lamb, roasted meats.
