Acquired by the Symington family in 2006, contracts prevented the family from producing their own wine from the estate until the 2010 vintage. Since then, we've seen improvements in every part of the range, from ruby port to reserve port all the way to vintage. Cockburn's vineyards are east of Vesuvio, not far from the Spainish border. In honor of the estate's 200 year anniversary, the Symingtons "declared" the 2015 vintage for Cockburn, and what a beautiful vintage to do it! Opaque, very viscous, blood-purple in color, the beguiling aroma and massive flavor is all wild blackberry, reminding me of a French Creme de Mure liqueur. We're told there is a lot of Touriga Nacional in the blend. The winery recommends holding this at least 10 years to start getting more flavors, and it will be even better 20-30 years from now, making this wine an ideal candidate to pass down to your children and children's children. That is, if you can keep your hands off this delicious wine now!
