This flagship bottling of Chateau Lafite Rothschild’s Chilean project is nothing less than a world class wine on every level. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Carménère and 5% Syrah, the grapes are hand-picked from up to 80 year old pre-phylloxera, un-grafted rootstock vines and hand sorted. After careful fermentation using the same techniques and expertise as employed at their world-famous Bordeaux domaine, the wine is aged for 18 months in exactly the same barrels as their flagship 1st growth Bordeaux. This is one of the main reasons why this wine has an unmistakable elegance and grace - and serious aging potential. This smells, tastes, drinks and finishes like a top-notch, complex young Bordeaux, with a special richness and intensity that the warmer growing conditions of Chile provide. And the tannin are just perfect - both from theold vine fruit and the impeccable cooperage. Previous vintages have been among the best red wines I have ever had at any price. And at less than 1/10th the price of its 1st growth Bordeaux big brother, a remarkable bargain.
