The wines from Fleurie are so very aptly named and the wines always have a super floral note to them. Chignard is a 4th generation winemaking family with very old school ideas about what Beaujolais should taste and feel so they take a minimalist stand in the vineyard and in the cellar. This extraordinarily aromatic wine comes from vines that are over 70 years old, thus the fruit is intense and compacted. Bright purple flowers, some warm spice, cooked cranberry jam and a touch of fresh cracked pepper. Without question one of my favorite Beaujolais year in and year out.
