We have this Domaine to thank for putting the region of Cornas on the map. The first to bottle their wines under their own label rather than selling off their fruit or juice to the village coop. Clape quickly became the model of quality in Cornas and to this day theirs are some of the most sought after and highly allocated. We are smitten with the 2014 wines we just got in. The absolute purity of fruit, the balance and the focus are close to as perfect as Syrah can be. Much more on the floral, pretty end of the Syrah spectrum. More grace than muscle. This Renaissance is made from the younger of Clape's holdings in Cornas but don't think for a second this is of any less quality, just maybe not as deep and serious and the "regular" Cornas. Laser focused dark fruit, lots of perfume that is absolutely intoxicating. So much so that you almost don't want to pull your nose from the glass long enough to sip on it. Bright, crunchy, stunningly high quality.
