Domaine Marc Roy 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur, Burgundy
The Clos Prieur vineyard is located just down the slope from the famed Grand Cru of Mazi Chambertin, so here you see the same kind of clay and iron soils. Very floral in the aromatics, like wild flowers and cooked black cherries with a scrape of holiday spice. On the palate we pick up some stone fruit and the classic dried leaves that we find in Gevrey. Light in body but firm on tannin, this noble wine has many more years left in it, if you can wait that is.
Delicate and floral on the nose with red fruits - ripe cherries and cranberries - touches of cinnamon , forest floor, and chalky minerals. Very crisp on the palate mirroring the nose. Pairs with chicken, beef bourguignon, game birds.
