Domain Eugene Carrel is family run and located in the Alpine hills of France in the Savoie wine village of Jongieux. Vineyards are situated between the foothills of the Charvaz Mountains, the Rhone River and France's largest lake, Bourget, providing a unique and warmer microclimate. This area gets 2-3 hours more sunlight than any other area of the cool Savoie. The vineyards are incredibly steep, at an altitude of 1400 feet, with soils of chalk and marl on pebbles.

This wine is a blend of Gamay, Pinot Noir and Mondeuse grapes - Mondeuse is deeply colored with high acidity and is native to the Savoie region. Gamay and Pinot Noir are hand-harvested together. But Mondeuse requires more hang time and is harvested later, and added to the already-fermented Gamay and Pinot Noir. The wine is aged on its lees in stainless steel with no malolactic conversion. The wine is dosed with liqueur de tirage and fermented in the same bottle in which it is served - the same method as Champagne.
