Aromatically the wine is very herbal, with perfumes of Mandarin, truffle, and coastal bay. On the palate, the wine has flavors of dark cherries, raspberries, and spicy orange marmalade. – Hirsch has never been more expressive and focused as this evocative
Description
The Hirsch Vineyard was planted in 1980 by David Hirsch, seated above the fog line at 1500 ft. height, adjacent to the San Andreas Fault. The result is a myriad of soil types (Goldridge, Hugo, Boomer, and Yorkville), and hosts more than 60 distinct blocks over 72 planted acres. Failla has worked with the vineyard since 2001. The Pinot Noir undergoes 20% whole cluster fermentation with native yeast. The wine is aged for 11 months in 20% new French oak before being bottled unfiltered and unfined.
