Beautiful color with tawny highlights indicating its slow maturation in oak. Very intense on the nose and plate with fruits of golden plum, apricots, marmalade, fruit blossoms, baking spice and roasted nuts - with an oxidative note as well. This tawny is full in body, rich and well balanced with a long, satisfying finish. A great accompaniment to most desserts and cheeses, and interestingly, try it with Asian spiced roasted chicken or Peking duck.
Made with traditional red Port varieties - Touriga Nactional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cao and Tinta Amarela - the wine undergoes an average of 4 - 12 years of aging. This estate was named after a very import figure in Portuguese history. The winery was established in 1751, making it one of the oldest port houses, always known for its quality wines. The company's growth and long-term success is attributed to Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, known for both her business acumen and her philanthropic gestures, including providing ongoing employment to local workers during desperate times.
