Francois LeClerc 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy
Superior quality here with expert winemaking loaded with aromas of blueberries, blackberries, smoke with a minerally bottom note. The palate is supple, graceful and smooth with fruit character balanced by its vibrant acidity and gentle moderated tannins. Pair with game, duck, roasted meats, truffle cheeses.
Rene Leclerc has been making wine under his own label since the mid 1970’s, and today, he is one of the best known and most highly respected craftsmen in Burgundy. He consistently makes great wines each year. Rene is in the process of passing the management of the domaine to his son, Francois. When he does take over, he wants to continue the successful style perfected by Rene – both for the Rene Leclerc wines as well as for his own wines that have the Francois Leclerc label.
The Leclercs emphasize the fruit in their wines by pressing the grapes for only 3 hours, instead of the usual 10 hours, thereby getting the best juice and avoiding the bitter tannins. They use an ancient basket press for this purpose, one of only a few still in operation. This wine is comprised of fruit exclusively from the higher slope of Gevrey-Chambertin, from vineyards that are 50 to 80 years old.
