Freemark Abbey, founded in 1886, is one of the oldest wineries in the Napa Valley. This is a great example of a Chardonnay that can satisfy the many diverse palates of family and friends when they get together. 59% of the wine is fermented in barrel with the rest in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is not done to preserve tart apple acidity and limit the excessive butter flavor found in many other Chardonnays. Most of the wine is oak barrel aged with 15% total new French oak. Due to these winemaking choices the wine comes across as soft and pleasing with good acidity but still with a touch of creamy vanilla and spice. Pear, citrus fruit and apple and peach flavors are found here.
