Enemigo Gran Enemigo 2014 Cabernet Franc, Mendoza
A spare-no-expense collaboration between Adriana Catena of the famous Argentine wine dynasty and world-famous winemaker Alejandro Vigil, this is an exceedingly rare, top-notch premium bottling of 85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Malbec. Unfortunately, I was not able to taste this vintage before I brought it in, which I had to do once the critics’ scores rolled in. To quote a few: “This is a fabulous wine with blackberry, dark mushroom, blueberry and white pepper character. Full body, fine tannins and fantastic depth and length. Goes on for minutes. A magnificent red. Beautiful encore to the superb 2012. Drink or hold.” 99 points - James Suckling; “Anyone who still thinks that Argentina only makes 15% alcohol blockbusters should try a glass of this taut, tangy, focused Cabernet Franc from Gualtallary. Built to age, it’s balanced and leafy with plenty of acidity and tannin and textured, plummy fruit.” 93 points - Tim Atkin, MW.
