2011 Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs
We were able to nab the last six pack of this amazingly complex and compelling Chardonnay based sparkler. They are going to be rolling into the 2013 but I took one deep sniff of this one and before even tasting it, told our sales rep that I wanted the last case. Wonderfully biscuity on the nose, like a fresh cooked biscuit with a smear of lemon curd. There is a warm and ultra-inviting depth of aromatics in this rare little wine. Some pear, some custard and citrus but there are some faintly savory notes that make this wine simply beguiling. Soft and creamy in the mouth with gentle bubbles and more lemon cream and dough on the finish. This is a very cool wine that should be savored with very simple foods, like potato chips, mild creamy cheeses or simple roasted white fish or chicken. Let the wine be the star, it deserves it.
