2013 Gusbourne Brut Reserve
Made from 55%Pinot Noir, 27% Pinot Meunier and 18% Chardonnay this zingy little sparkler is popping with bright freshness. Very lively aromatics of baked apples and lemon rind, all of which so cheerful and inviting. Free of that intense doughy aroma and flavor, there is a touch, you end up getting pure and vibrant fruit that is all sorts of crisp. Quite dry in the mouth, drier than most big house Champagnes in fact, you get this lean, slightly mineral thing that makes you crave a salty snack to partner with the wine, which makes it perfect for a starter before a meal. Plus how cool would you look opening, or bringing to a dinner party, an English sparkling wine?! The bubbles here are quite fine and delicate, more of whisper than a demand for attention. The finish is still full of that poppy, tangy fruit which beckons you back for another sip.
