J M Seleque N.V. Champagne Brut Solessence, Pierry, Vallee de la Marne
The Seleque, (Say-Lek) family domaine was founded in 1965 and it is now Jean Marc at helm of the estate. He returned after doing and internship at Chandon in Napa Valley with some ideas of what he wanted to do and didn’t want to do. He first stopped selling their fruit to negociants, then he took to farming organically. He uses horses to plow and uses sheep to help with mowing in an effort to make changes in the vineyard rather than make corrections in the cellar. Made from 50% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Meunier and 10% Pinot Noir. While this is an Extra Brut there is plenty of generous red fruit, florals, and pastry crust on the palate. Lots of intensity and with a long, very floral finish. Such a gorgeous, dry, and inviting Champagne. Winery’s total annual production is 5,500 cases.
