Description

Impeccably hand-made by the doyenne of Marlborough winemakers, Jules Taylor (who some of our customer were fortunate to meet here in the store in 2016), OTQ stands for On The Quiet - kiwi for a special secret - and this extremely limited production Pinot Noir is very special indeed. Coming from a single vineyard, the Ballochdale Estate, this is a willful and achingly pure Pinot Noir unlike any other I've ever had. There is an almost vibrating intensity and wildness here that is remarkable. The aromas and flavors of ripe dark fruit, cherry, and plum are intense but not heavy - the wine is only 13.6% alcohol. It sees 10 months in French oak after a slow wild yeast fermentation, and the oak adds a nice girding of velvety tannins. This wine has an intriguing edge that is impossible to describe, but which elevates it way out of the ordinary. A remarkable achievement from a remarkable winemaker - get it before it's gone.
