A spicier Rum, bold spice and charred oak up front with hints of butterscotch and vanilla. Spice lingers for a while.
I am of the belief that once you get to the 20 year mark with Rums you are running the chance of them being all woodsy and losing the actually Rum flavors. That isn't the case with Kirk & Sweeney's 23 year old Rum. While there is bold charred oak and vibrant spicy characteristics that you get from oak (cinnamon, cracked pepper), there are still hints of butterscotch and vanilla to add creaminess and smoothness to the spirit.
