Kozlovic is a family winery. Its history began in 1904 in the Valle Valley of Istria, Croatia. The estate has been passed down generation to generation continuously. The vineyards are planted to local Croatian varietals Malvazija, Muscat Momiano, Muscat Rose and Teran grown in the hills of Valle, Santa Lucia and Kontarini on clay soils known locally as "Terra Bianca" (a mix of flysch, limestone and white clay). Vines are grown using sustainable practices with minimal spraying of pesticides. All grapes are hand-harvested.

Teran is a Croatian speciality, but is also grown in Italy and Slovenia. It is related to Refosco. The grape produces wines with an abundance of acidity and tannins. Kozlovic sun-dries a portion of their Teran grapes on hay - this reduces some of their acidity. Only full ripe grapes are selected, requiring making several passes through the vineyard. Grapes are then fermented in stainless steel and aged in large oak barrels for 12 months.
