Stunning amount of serious Blanc de Blancs for an amazing price.
Gilles Lancelot is one of the members of Les Artisans de Champagne, a group of small, artisanal Champagne producers that promote and champion the truly hand-crafted wines of Champagne over the factory fizz coming by the millions of case loads of the big Champagne houses. Lancelot Pienne makes just shy of 6,000 cases, not of this wine but their entire yearly production, so you know he is committed to delivering to the end consumer the very finest quality wine he feels honored to attach his family name to. The aromatics here are so compelling, just little whispers of citrus and brioche, it’s the floral notes here that are center stage. On the palate the wine is linear, focused, loaded with macadamia nuts and freshly baking bread. Dry but not bracing in any way, this is a fun wine to sip on with cold seafood, sushi, chips and of course, fried chicken. Gains complexity as it opens and warms a little in the glass.
