Faro is a tiny, ancient wine region located in the northeastern corner of Sicily near Messina. Wines from this region are only produced with Sicily’s indigenous grapes. Faro is always a blend of Sicily’s four main red grapes; Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Nocera and Nero d’Avola. Le Casematte’s Faro is a great example of the finessed and complex wines being produced in Sicily now. This medium bodied wine is extremely elegant and smooth with flavors of ripe black currants and earthy Mediterrenean shrubs. Bright acidity and firm tannins give it lift and great structure. A stunning wine!
