The crew at Lioco always manage to coax out the elegant side of things, and that’s especially important when dealing with this burly grape variety! These old vines give very little fruit, but with such intense concentration. They take that flavor and make a wine that’s crunchy yet intense with juicy Montmorency cherries as well as cassis and smoked meaty notes with a nice touch of sage, violet and rosemary. This is such a cool wine, and definitely worth a try if you want to be wowed by Carignan! These old head pruned vines grow high up on Pine Mountain above Cloverdale at 2400 feet and undergo fermentation the ‘old fashioned way’. Pair with roast pork dishes as well as bacon cheeseburgers for a real treat.
